Unusually wide 19th century French gilt overmantel bistro mirror. It is almost square.
It dates from around 1870.
It has its beautiful original worn gilt (real gold leaf) on gesso frame in a subtle etched leaf design with no chips to the gesso.
It also has its lovely distressed original mercury glass with lots of foxing and spots. Mercury glass is so hard to find these days.
It would look stunning used as an overmantel above a wide mantelpiece, in a hallway above a table or hanging on any large wall.
